As a Grade A Tertiary General Hospital directly under the Henan Provincial Health Commission, the Third People’s Hospital of Henan Province serves as a designated medical institution for provincial cadre healthcare in Henan. It also acts as the presiding unit of the Henan Provincial Society of Physical Medicine and the Zhengzhou Society of Physical Medicine. Boasting robust scientific research platforms, the hospital has been accredited with a number of provincial and municipal key research bases, including the Henan Provincial Engineering Research Center for Home Health Management, the Henan Provincial Engineering Research Center for Development and Clinical Application of High-activity Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Key Laboratory of Knee Sports Injury Biomechanics under the Henan Provincial Health Commission, and the Zhengzhou Key Laboratory of Tissue Regeneration and Wound Repair.

Located in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, the hospital consists of two campuses. The East Campus (Zhengdong New District People’s Hospital) is adjacent to the Henan Provincial Government, while the West Campus is situated at the intersection of Funiu Road and Longhai Road in Zhongyuan District. The hospital features complete supporting facilities, including two first-aid stations, five first-aid alliance member units, four community health service centers, and an independent judicial appraisal center. All key specialties feature outstanding strengths and leading clinical technologies. The Department of Spinal Minimally Invasive Surgery, a national key clinical specialty construction unit and Henan provincial key cultivated discipline, has been dedicated to the innovation and iteration of spinal endoscopic minimally invasive techniques. It has completed comprehensive technological upgrading from version 1.0 to 5.0, taking a leading position domestically and attracting numerous domestic and foreign experts for advanced study and academic exchanges. The department has initiated and established an intervertebral disc specialty alliance with more than 130 member institutions at home and abroad, greatly promoting the standardized development of spinal minimally invasive technology nationwide.

The Emergency and Critical Care Medical Center is proficient in cutting-edge critical care technologies represented by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Relying on its strong clinical capabilities, Emergency Medicine is rated as a Henan provincial key medical discipline, and Critical Care Medicine is recognized as a Henan provincial key clinical specialty. The Meige Syndrome Diagnosis and Treatment Center has pioneered innovative nerve circuit block surgery for Meige syndrome treatment. With prominent technological advantages and widespread industry influence, the center treats 70% of patients from outside Henan Province, and has been accredited as a Henan provincial characteristic specialty and a provincial specialized disease treatment center.

As one of the first batch of provincial key clinical specialties in Henan during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the Department of Cardiac and Macrovascular Surgery routinely carries out high-end cardiac procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and hybrid cardiac surgery. The Vascular Surgery Department serves as the vice-chairman unit of the Henan Medical Association and Henan Physician Association. It specializes in cutting-edge procedures such as interventional therapy for aortic dissection and aneurysm, carotid body tumor resection, carotid endarterectomy, and one-stop diagnosis and treatment for venous thromboembolism (VTE).

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department, a national cultivation unit for wound repair construction and a provincial key clinical specialty of Henan, performs comprehensive reconstructive and plastic surgeries for deformities and defects of the ear, nose, lip, maxillofacial region, hand and foot, breast, abdominal wall, genital organs, as well as scar repair and superficial tumor resection. The Diabetic Foot Center, chaired by the Diabetic Foot Group of Henan Microcirculation Society, has established an innovative multi-disciplinary one-stop treatment model for diabetic foot and is accredited as a Henan provincial characteristic specialty.

Sports Medicine is a provincial key cultivated medical discipline of Henan. The sports injury discipline cluster integrates Spinal Minimally Invasive Surgery, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine to build an integrated prevention, treatment and rehabilitation platform for sports injury patients, adhering to standardized assessment and precise individualized treatment. The Orthopedics Department serves as the vice-chairman unit of the Knee Preservation Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine and the Geriatric Knee Preservation Group of the Chinese Geriatrics Society. It implements a five-step knee preservation treatment system for knee joint diseases, covering CME training, PRP therapy, arthroscopy, lower limb orthopedics and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, enjoying high domestic academic influence. The hospital has independently established a Knee Preservation Center and a Minimally Invasive Intracranial Aneurysm Diagnosis and Treatment Center, providing diversified and precise treatment options for patients.

The Gastroenterology Diagnosis and Treatment Center is a national training base for endoscopic minimally invasive gallbladder-preserving surgery authorized by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. Its ultra-minimally invasive treatment for gallstone diseases has been recognized as a Henan provincial characteristic specialty. The Chest Pain Center has passed the national standard certification and carries out ECMO-assisted PCI procedures. The Stroke Center is accredited as a National Advanced Stroke Center and performs ECMO-assisted intracranial arterial thrombectomy. The Trauma Center has obtained provincial tertiary certification and undertakes benchmark trauma treatments including thrombolysis and thrombectomy for pulmonary embolism and endovascular exclusion for traumatic aortic dissection.

The Venous Thromboembolism Prevention and Treatment Center is awarded as an Excellent Unit of the National VTE Prevention and Treatment Capacity Building Project. The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Department (PCCM) has passed the standardized national PCCM certification. The Digestive Endoscopy Center is capable of high-end difficult endoscopic procedures such as ESD, POEM, NOTES, ERCP, and en bloc resection of gastric stromal tumors under gastroscopy. The Neurosurgery Department performs endoscopic minimally invasive tumor resection and aneurysm clipping. The Urology Department carries out laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy, and laser prostate enucleation.

The Otorhinolaryngology Department specializes in minimally invasive endoscopic surgery and total laryngectomy. The Thyroid and Breast Surgery Department performs radiofrequency ablation for thyroid nodules, minimally invasive rotational resection of breast masses, and breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer. The Thoracic Surgery Department conducts thoracoscopic radical resection of lung cancer and esophageal cancer. The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department completes laparoscopic liver tumor and biliary tract surgeries. The Gastrointestinal and Anorectal Surgery Department performs laparoscopic D2/D3 radical resection for gastrointestinal cancer. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department carries out complex laparoscopic hysterectomy and giant ovarian cyst resection. The Blood Purification Center provides comprehensive purification technologies including hemoperfusion, immunoadsorption and plasma exchange.

The hospital has launched the “Daojian Fund under Henan Charity Federation” to carry out various public welfare medical assistance programs.
